The
over-label label itself consists of a fluid filled pouch,
which--when activated by mixing the contents--is actively measuring
the time and temperature exposure of the perishable container to
which it is attached. After activation, its normal appearance
is a green color in the viewing window.

photographic image illustrates the normal green colour of
the SmartLabel time-temperature indicator over-label |
A colour guide is included with the
label strip. This guide, which appears just below the active
component over-label itself, shows whether significant temperature
abuse has occurred during the storage and flight history of the
perishable container. Generally, if there is a green color
detectable, then the reading is "good". This means that the
monitored container contents are fresh and have not been adversely
affected by time and temperature exposure.
If
there is any yellow color detectable, then the reading is "expired".
If the window is white in colour, it indicates that the over-label
was not activated for some reason. It either circumstance,
there is a reportable condition:
1) If the perishables have
expired due to exposure to more than the acceptable
time-temperature conditions, the viewing window of the active
label portion of the SmartLabel will show a yellow colour. This is
a reportable situation.
2) If the SmartLabel shows a
viewing window that is white in colour, then the active label
component has not been activated, and the perishables
module or trolley is not being actively monitored. this is
also a reportable situation.
A yellow condition or a
white condition should be indicated on the provided check boxes.
If a check is required, then the lower information boxes need to be
filled out with appropriate information.
The reverse side of the Smart Label
has general information and instructions for using the SmartLabel
approach.
